Didactic Information In depictions of Saint Anthony, he holds the Christ child, a lily, and sometimes a book. The image in this retablo is based on the story of an innkeeper, who saw light emanating from the door where Anthony was staying. The host discovered that it came from the Christ whom Anthony held in his arms. Though born an aristocrat, Anthony became an advocate of the downtrodden. He is petitioned to find husbands and lost trifles.
