Didactic Information San Raphael is portrayed holding a fish, one of his attributes, because he used a fish to restore the eyesight of Tobias' father, as related in the Book of Tobias. Raphael's name means, "God has healed," and refers to that event. Raphael's costume is typically Baroque and relates to the attire of Roman soldiers. He often wears a wreath on his head and holds the staff and gourd of a religious pilgrim.
