Didactic Information According to one legend, Saint Acacius and his 9,000 Roman soldiers were converted to Christianity in the 2nd century AD after a vision of an angel. They returned to Ararat and founded a community for the contemplative life but all were ultimately tortured and murdered for their religious conviction. Acacius was crucified, and at the foot of his cross are objects associated with his military life. He is known as one of the "Fourteen Holy Helpers" and has intercessory powers that were granted at the time of his death.
