Polish-born New York-based artist Hanna Zawa-Cywi?ska is an established printmaker and textile artist whose work is marked by abstraction and vivid colors. Zawa-Cywi?ska experiments with many types of art; she makes etchings, paper, paintings, and three-dimensional works, and has recently been painting abstract canvases in jewel tones. In each medium she integrates two complementary factors of technical mastery and poetic expression. Vibrations/Klee comes from Zawa-Cywi?ska's "High-Tech Art" series. The works in this series are titled in the language of electronics. Constructed of a shallow metal box with vertically attached grey coiled telephone cables and a colorful wool background, this work exists in between the realms of painting and sculpture. The title of this work refers to both the subtle movement of the cords as viewers pass by and to the modern artist Paul Klee, known for his vivid use of color and tonality. This work is a direct reflection of Zawa-Cywi?ska's interest in the intersection between the technological and natural worlds. (December 2015) |
