Focusing on color and repetition, Vladimir de Leon Llaguno creates paintings and works on paper that explore mathematical arrangements reminiscent of M.C. Escher's optical puzzles. He also creates cut paper collages that recall early twentieth-century Dadaist collages, bringing together disjointed images appropriated from magazines and mechanics manuals. Often his works incorporate silhouettes of figures within blocks of color that address the interface between humanity and technology. Floating in a void of bold color, his mechanomorphic images reveal the technological limitations of a developing country along with the possibilities of technology to bring about positive change. |
